His eyes can see

something and then another thing

like an ultraviolet version

of what is real is covering his

eyes.  She looks back at him and

asks him what is wrong.  He says

that if they can get back to

the mainland alive that he’ll tell

her, but he doesn’t foresee that

happening.  She can’t tell

if he’s joking or not, keeps imagining

there’s a whale underneath them

guiding them

at night when they are too

scared to sleep and the look

at the sky until they lose their

grip on reality.
